Press Release: Pedal the Cause Poised to Break Records for Cancer Research in 2023

March 2, 2023

Pedal the Cause, presented by Edward Jones, is thrilled to return for its fourteenth year of raising critical funds for cancer research with an exciting lineup of cycling and community events. On September 23 and 24, thousands will gather in Chesterfield for a celebratory weekend of pedaling, community, festivities and family fun. Registration officially opened today, March 1.

Pedal the Cause is one of the top-ten largest cause-related cycling events in the country, having donated over $40 million since 2010 to fund the best and brightest ideas in cancer research. All – 100 percent – of participant-raised funds support innovative, early-stage cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. This research is producing new treatments and cures for cancer for patients in St. Louis and around the world, and is research that would otherwise go unfunded. To date, Pedal the Cause has funded 200 cancer research projects – 155 adult and 45 pediatric.

“With 14 years of momentum, we are looking forward to an extraordinary year of community building, creating impact and breaking records,” said David Drier, executive director of Pedal the Cause. “We all have a reason to fight for a world without cancer and with so many ways to get involved in Pedal the Cause, there is truly something for everyone.

“Through the research we are funding at our best-in-class facilities here in St. Louis, we can see the real impact of our dollars in our community and around the world. A world without cancer has never been more in reach.”

Saturday, September 23 will feature the Kids Challenge in the morning, and Taste the Cause and the Inspirational Program in the evening. Sunday, September 24 will include a full day or riding, spinning and gathering as a community to celebrate our accomplishments and honor those who are fighting or who we have lost to cancer.

In 2022, more than 3,000 participants of all ages joined Pedal the Cause, cycling, spinning, volunteering or through at-home virtual activities. Participants and teams raised funds from March through October, totaling $4,543,878. The generous support of sponsors, led by Edward Jones, ensures that 100 percent of donations made to Pedal the Cause directly fund cancer research.
