Study finds similarities in cancer origins

YOU FUNDED IT! A Pedal-funded study led by Siteman Cancer Center researcher Jason C. Mills, MD, PhD, has made an significant discovery regarding cell behavior. “Cancers are very different from one organ to another and from person to person, ” Says Dr. Mills. “But if, as this study suggests, the way that cells become proliferative again is similar across many different organs, we can imagine therapies that interfere with cancer initiation in a more global way, regardless of where that cancer may appear in the body.”

Funded in 2017
Principal Investigator:
Jacqueline Payton, MD, PhD
Goal: To better understand and provide critical insight into the role that a newly discovered class of RNA molecules have in the development of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Limited understanding of the biological changes that contribute to lymphoma progression is a major obstacle to developing new treatments. At the completion of these studies, her team expects to provide critical insight into Lymphoma disease and the potential to discover new therapeutic targets.
